Vedanta to Review First Interim Dividend for FY27 on October 8

Vedanta Limited, a leading metals and mining company headed by Anil Agarwal, will convene a board meeting on October 8, 2026, to evaluate and potentially approve its first interim dividend for the financial year 2026-27. The firm has indicated October 14 as the record date, which determines the eligibility of shareholders to receive the proposed dividend, if declared.

This announcement follows the release of the company’s impressive second-quarter production figures, which highlighted significant operational achievements across multiple business segments. Most notably, Vedanta's Zinc India unit reported record refined metal output during the quarter and the first half of the year, marking a period of sustained growth.

In its filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Vedanta stated, "The meeting of the Board of Directors of the Company is proposed to be scheduled on Thursday, October 08, 2026 to consider and approve the First Interim Dividend on equity shares, if any, for the Financial Year 2026-27." This development is closely watched by investors, as dividend payments often reflect a company’s confidence in its financial health and future prospects.

Vedanta’s shares closed at Rs 255 on the BSE on the trading day prior to the announcement, recording a 1.22 percent increase from the previous session’s close of Rs 251.90. The stock traded within a range of Rs 252.15 to Rs 256.60 during the day. Over the past year, Vedanta’s shares have fluctuated between a low of Rs 167.31 and a high of Rs 360.70. As of early October, the company’s market capitalization stood at approximately Rs 99,714.90 crore.

The timing of the dividend consideration comes shortly after Vedanta’s second-quarter production update, released on October 3, 2026. The company reported that Zinc India achieved its highest-ever refined metal production both for the quarter and for the first half of the fiscal year. Specifically, Zinc India’s mined metal production for the first half reached 539 kilotonnes, representing a 3 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year.

Refined metal production for the first half rose 6 percent year-on-year to 524 kilotonnes. During the quarter alone, mined metal production was 271 kilotonnes, supported by increased ore output. Refined metal output during this period rose 7 percent year-over-year to 264 kilotonnes, aided by capacity enhancements from projects at Chanderiya and Dariba mines, along with the 160 KTPA roaster at Debari.

In addition to zinc, the company’s saleable silver production expanded by 20 percent year-on-year to reach 173 metric tonnes, aligning with Vedanta’s production plans. The company also reported growth in other segments, including record chrome ore production for the quarter and half-year, as well as a 26 percent increase in ferrochrome output to 24 kilotonnes compared to the previous year.

Vedanta’s port operations have also seen gains, achieving the highest-ever cargo handling volume for the first half of the fiscal year. These operational milestones demonstrate the company’s broad-based performance improvements across its diversified mining and metals portfolio.

Vedanta is a major global player in the natural resources sector, with a footprint spanning various metals including zinc, copper, aluminum, and iron ore. The company’s ability to consistently ramp up production volumes is critical to its profitability and shareholder returns. Interim dividend payments are typically a sign that the board is confident in the company’s cash flows and ongoing business outlook.

Investors and market watchers will be paying close attention to the board’s decision on October 8, which will provide further insight into Vedanta’s financial position and its approach to returning value to shareholders in the 2026-27 financial year.
