Uttar Pradesh Launches Major Industrial and Infrastructure Projects Ahead of Elections
Uttar Pradesh is set to commence work on several significant industrial and infrastructure initiatives as the state prepares for its upcoming Assembly elections. These developments include the construction of four new link expressways, a robotics park in Greater Noida, and the establishment of global capability centres (GCCs) by four leading companies in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The four link expressways are planned to enhance connectivity by linking Farrukhabad, Jhansi, and Jewar with the existing expressway network. These routes will also connect the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Purvanchal Expressway, fostering easier travel across western, central, and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. The total investment for these expressway projects is estimated at ₹17,542.06 crore.
The Uttar Pradesh state Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, recently approved the selection of developers for these expressway projects. The developments will be managed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) following the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) model. The projects include multiple packages for each link expressway: Farrukhabad Link Expressway (Package-I and II), Jhansi Link Expressway (Package-I and II), Jewar Link Expressway (Package-I and II), and the link connecting Agra-Lucknow Expressway with Purvanchal Expressway.
Parliamentary Affairs and Finance Minister Suresh Khanna briefed the media, emphasizing that the improved infrastructure would facilitate safer and more efficient travel to Lucknow and the NCR. Construction is expected to be completed within three years of developer selection, followed by a five-year maintenance phase. The state government will fully fund both construction and maintenance costs, without financial assistance from the central government. These projects are anticipated to generate approximately 76 million person-days of employment, spanning direct and indirect jobs.
In addition to transport infrastructure, the Cabinet approved the creation of the Platform for Robotics and AI Growth through Technology and Innovation (PRAGATI) Robotics Park in Greater Noida. Spanning about 69.52 acres, this park aims to support robotics firms, technology startups, research institutions, and industries by providing comprehensive facilities. The initiative is designed to boost indigenous robotics manufacturing and accelerate the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within the state.
The robotics park is projected to create over 100,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, and contribute roughly ₹2,000 crore annually in gross value added (GVA) to Uttar Pradesh’s economy. To support this venture, the Greater Noida Authority will invest ₹21.1 crore as equity for Zone-I development, while the state government will extend an interest-free loan of ₹126.2 crore over a 30-year term.
Further decisions by the Cabinet included approving letters of comfort (LoCs) for four companies under the Uttar Pradesh Global Capability Centre Policy, 2024. These companies—Havells India Ltd, Ameriprise India LLP, MetLife Global Operations Support Center Pvt Ltd, and LG Soft India Pvt Ltd—plan to invest a combined total of ₹1,709.84 crore in establishing GCCs within Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida).
Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi highlighted that these projects will enhance the state’s GCC ecosystem and expand high-skilled business activities. Havells India has proposed an investment of ₹879 crore, Ameriprise India ₹112.84 crore, MetLife ₹84 crore, and LG Soft India ₹634 crore. These centres are expected to bring advanced business services and employment opportunities to the region.
The timing of these infrastructure and industrial developments coincides with the approach of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, reflecting the state government’s focus on economic growth and job creation. By improving transport connectivity, fostering innovation in robotics and AI, and attracting global business operations, Uttar Pradesh aims to strengthen its economic landscape and provide a boost to local communities.
Infrastructure projects like these are crucial for Uttar Pradesh, which is India’s most populous state and a significant contributor to the country’s economy. Enhanced expressways can reduce travel time, improve safety, and promote trade between regions. Meanwhile, investments in technology parks and GCCs align with broader national trends encouraging digital innovation and service sector growth.
As these projects move forward, their successful completion could position Uttar Pradesh as an increasingly attractive destination for investment and skilled employment, supporting the state’s long-term development objectives.
