JSW Energy revealed a significant rise in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter of the financial year 2027, registering a 38 percent increase from the previous year. The company reported a net profit of ₹1,141 crore for the July to September period, compared to ₹824 crore in the same quarter last year, reflecting stronger revenue performance.

During this quarter, JSW Energy's total income climbed to ₹6,657.71 crore, up from ₹5,361 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the prior year. This growth in revenue contributed directly to the robust earnings reported by the energy firm.

Alongside the quarterly financials, the company's board sanctioned plans to raise up to ₹5,000 crore through the issuance of non-convertible debentures. These debt instruments will be issued on a private placement basis and could be spread over multiple tranches. The Finance Committee has been empowered to oversee all related decisions, including determining the final terms of the debenture issuance.

JSW Energy currently operates a total installed capacity of 15,147 megawatts (MW), with renewable energy assets making up a majority share. Specifically, 9,189 MW—or 61 percent—of its capacity is derived from renewable sources. This portfolio consists of 3,125 MW of wind power, 2,426 MW of solar energy, 1,857 MW of hybrid power projects, and 1,781 MW of hydroelectric power. The remaining 5,958 MW capacity comes from thermal power plants.

The company continues to expand its footprint both domestically and internationally. In the recent quarter, JSW Energy entered into a joint venture with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC), a subsidiary of Druk Holding & Investments, which is the commercial entity of Bhutan's government. Together, they plan to develop the 920 MW Punatsangchhu-III Hydroelectric Project. Ownership in this joint venture will be split with DGPC holding 51 percent and JSW Neo Energy owning 49 percent. This marks JSW's initial foray into power generation outside of India.

Additionally, JSW Energy acquired Maruti Clean Coal & Power Ltd on August 6, a company that operates a 300 MW thermal power plant located in Chhattisgarh. The transaction was valued at approximately ₹1,410 crore on an enterprise basis. This plant benefits from a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 195 MW net capacity with Rajasthan distribution companies. The PPA remains effective for another 14 years, providing a stable revenue stream for JSW Energy.

JSW Energy has positioned itself as a major player in the Indian power sector, with a diversified energy mix and ongoing projects both in renewables and conventional energy. The company’s growing investment in clean energy aligns with broader industry trends favoring sustainability and reduced carbon emissions. Its financial results and strategic initiatives highlight the company’s commitment to expanding capacity while maintaining profitability.

As the energy market continues to evolve, JSW Energy’s blend of renewable and thermal assets, coupled with international partnerships, may provide a balanced pathway for growth and resilience in changing regulatory and economic environments.
