Maruti Suzuki's Electric SUV Exports Surpass 50,000 Units Since 2025
Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced on Thursday that its exports of electric vehicles have exceeded 50,000 units since the company began global shipments in August 2025. This milestone reflects the growing demand for India's electric passenger vehicles, with Maruti Suzuki playing a leading role in the sector.
The electric SUV known as the eVITARA, produced at the Hansalpur manufacturing plant in Gujarat, has been the primary model driving these exports. Since production started in August 2025, the eVITARA has been shipped to more than 100 countries worldwide. Currently, Maruti Suzuki exports its electric vehicles to nearly 50 countries, with Europe emerging as the largest market. Key European destinations include the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Japan, and Switzerland.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, highlighted the company's dominant position in the electric passenger vehicle export segment. He noted that between April and September 2026, Maruti Suzuki's electric vehicle exports represented roughly 93 percent of India's total electric passenger vehicle exports. This statistic underscores the company’s significant contribution to India’s presence in the global EV market.
The Hansalpur facility, which serves as the exclusive production hub for Suzuki's first global battery electric vehicle, recently expanded its annual manufacturing capacity to one million vehicles. This expansion marks a significant achievement, making Hansalpur the first Suzuki plant worldwide to reach such a high production capability at a single site.
With a substantial investment totaling Rs 25,288.7 crore, the Hansalpur plant has become a vital export center for Maruti Suzuki. The facility accounted for nearly half of the company's total overseas shipments in the fiscal year 2025-26. This strategic focus on electric vehicle exports from India aligns with the global shift towards cleaner, sustainable transportation solutions and highlights the country’s growing role in the international EV supply chain.
The global electric vehicle market has seen rapid growth in recent years, driven by increasing environmental awareness, government incentives, and advances in battery technology. Maruti Suzuki’s success in exporting electric SUVs reflects broader trends in the automotive industry, where manufacturers are investing heavily in electric mobility to meet tightening emissions regulations and consumer demand.
India’s electric vehicle ecosystem is also evolving quickly. As one of the largest automobile producers worldwide, the country is positioning itself as a hub for EV manufacturing and exports. Maruti Suzuki's achievements contribute to this national goal, showcasing the potential of Indian manufacturing capabilities on the international stage.
Looking ahead, Maruti Suzuki is likely to continue expanding its electric vehicle portfolio and export footprint. The company’s ability to scale production and reach diverse global markets will be crucial as competition intensifies in the EV segment. Meanwhile, the Hansalpur plant’s production capacity and strategic investments underline Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to maintaining a strong presence in the electric vehicle arena.
This milestone of crossing 50,000 electric vehicle exports since August 2025 marks an important chapter for Maruti Suzuki India and signals the growing acceptance of Indian-made EVs across global markets.
