Indian Stocks Set to Extend Gains as Global Markets Rally

Indian stock markets are expected to open higher on Thursday, building on the momentum seen in recent sessions. The Nifty index is projected to start around 24,300, suggesting a potential rise of about 300 points at the opening bell. This optimistic outlook is largely influenced by positive developments in global markets, particularly following the recent US midterm elections.

The Democrats achieved significant gains in the US midterms, which led to a sharp rally in American stock markets. This surge has had a ripple effect, boosting investor confidence worldwide. Early trading in Asian and Australian markets reflected this upbeat sentiment, with most indices showing gains.

Despite this enthusiasm, market watchers remain cautious about the longer-term implications. Analysts are closely monitoring political developments in the US, especially after President Donald Trump indicated he might use his veto power decisively. How this dynamic unfolds could impact market direction in the coming days.

Domestic factors are also playing a key role in sustaining the bullish trend. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have resumed their buying spree after a brief pause, injecting substantial capital into Indian equities. On Wednesday alone, FPIs purchased shares worth over ₹7,280 crore in the secondary market, a strong indicator of growing foreign interest in the Indian market.

Corporate earnings reports scheduled in the near term will further influence investor sentiment. These results will provide critical insights into the health of various sectors and help guide investment decisions.

Osho Krishan, Chief Manager of Technical and Derivatives Research at Angel One, noted that the market's winning streak has now reached its fifth consecutive session. He highlighted that this sustained rally points to a solid bullish undertone and an overall improvement in market sentiment. Participation from a broad range of stocks, along with sectoral rotations, has supported this upward movement. Krishan also emphasized that global market cues and renewed inflows from foreign institutional investors have bolstered the positive momentum.

From a technical standpoint, experts agree that the market is showing signs of strength. Hitesh Tailor, a Technical Research Analyst at Choice Broking Private Limited, explained that the market bias remains positive. The Nifty has closed above its 200-day exponential moving average (EMA) and maintains momentum across a wide spectrum of stocks. Additionally, the Bank Nifty index has reclaimed its 50-day EMA, which adds to the optimistic outlook.

However, Tailor cautioned about potential resistance coming from higher moving averages and a declining trendline in the Bank Nifty. These technical levels will be important to watch as they could limit upward movement if selling pressure intensifies. Continued buying interest, on the other hand, could help the market sustain its recovery.

The current environment reflects a broader trend where global political events, foreign investment flows, and domestic corporate performance collectively shape the trajectory of Indian equity markets. Investors remain attentive to these factors as they navigate a landscape that offers both opportunities and uncertainties.

In summary, Indian shares are positioned to extend their gains amid favorable global and domestic conditions. The interplay of US political developments, strong foreign buying, and positive technical signals suggests a constructive phase for the market in the near term. Traders and investors will be closely watching upcoming earnings and technical resistance points to assess the durability of this rally.
