MCX Reports Over 100% Profit Growth to ₹455 Crore in Q2 FY27

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) has announced a significant rise in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027, reaching ₹455 crore. This marks an increase of more than 130% compared to the same quarter last year, when the profit stood at ₹197.47 crore. The company attributes this boost to a substantial jump in both trading volumes and overall income.

According to the regulatory filing, MCX’s total income for the quarter surged to ₹799.66 crore, almost doubling the ₹374.23 crore reported in the corresponding period of the previous year. Despite this increase, the company’s expenses also rose but at a more moderate rate, climbing to ₹211.36 crore from ₹150.41 crore. This balance between income and expenditure contributed to the robust profit growth.

Trading activity played a crucial role in MCX’s performance. Average Daily Turnover (ADT) for futures contracts increased to ₹62,819 crore during the quarter. Options trading experienced an even more dramatic rise, with ADT soaring to ₹12,00,129 crore. These figures indicate heightened market participation and liquidity in commodity derivatives, reflecting growing investor interest.

Physical commodity deliveries through the exchange also remained notable. During the quarter, MCX recorded deliveries of 5.68 tonnes of gold, 199.91 tonnes of silver, and 34,707 tonnes of base metals. This physical settlement activity highlights the exchange’s role in connecting producers, consumers, and investors in the commodity market.

Praveena Rai, MD and CEO of MCX, expressed satisfaction with the company’s quarterly results. She stated, “Our strong performance in Q2 FY27 reflects the continued trust of market participants and the growing relevance of the exchange in the evolving commodity ecosystem.” Rai emphasized that the exchange’s ability to attract volume and increase income illustrates its ongoing importance in India’s commodity trading landscape.

MCX is India’s leading commodity derivatives exchange, providing a platform for trading in a range of commodities including metals, energy, and agricultural products. The exchange plays a vital role in price discovery and risk management for market participants such as producers, consumers, and investors. Its growth in trading volumes and profitability signals a healthy demand for commodity trading instruments in India.

The surge in MCX’s income and profit comes amid a broader trend of increased activity in commodity markets globally. Factors such as supply chain dynamics, inflationary pressures, and geopolitical developments have heightened interest in commodities as an asset class. Exchanges like MCX benefit from this environment as they facilitate price transparency and risk transfer.

Looking ahead, MCX’s performance in this quarter sets a positive tone for the remainder of the fiscal year. The company’s focus on expanding product offerings, enhancing technology infrastructure, and strengthening regulatory compliance could help sustain this momentum. For investors and market analysts, MCX’s Q2 results provide an insightful indicator of the commodity market’s health and the exchange’s competitive standing.

In summary, MCX’s consolidated net profit more than doubled in the second quarter of FY27, driven by higher trading volumes and increased income. The exchange’s ability to maintain physical deliveries alongside growing derivatives activity underscores its integral role in India’s commodity ecosystem. As the commodity markets continue to evolve, MCX appears well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities and maintain its leadership in the sector.
