Jio Platforms IPO Grey Market Premium Climbs Ahead of October Listing
Jio Platforms Ltd, the digital services branch of Reliance Industries, is generating considerable investor enthusiasm as its initial public offering (IPO) approaches. According to market sources, the grey market premium (GMP) for Jio’s IPO has climbed steadily in recent days, reaching ₹160 as of this Monday, up from ₹145 and ₹120 in earlier sessions. This upward trend points to robust demand despite the grey market being an unofficial barometer that may fluctuate before the formal IPO launch.
The planned IPO aims to raise approximately $3.8 billion, positioning it as the largest public offering in India this year. It marks a significant milestone for Reliance, as this is the conglomerate’s first IPO in nearly twenty years. The listing is scheduled for October 21 and will be available on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Jio Platforms has recently concluded meetings with investors across key financial hubs including the United States, United Kingdom, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore. These presentations have likely fueled the growing interest reflected in the rising grey market premium. This IPO is set to surpass other major listings such as Hyundai Motor India’s $2.9 billion debut and the NSE’s $2.3 billion public offering last month.
After filing its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) in June, Jio Platforms received a crucial regulatory nod from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in August, clearing the way for the public offering. The company will issue up to 27 crore fresh equity shares, representing roughly 2.9% of its post-issue equity capital. The final price band will be established through a book-building process as per SEBI’s regulatory framework.
Industry insiders have indicated that Jio Platforms could seek a valuation between $143 billion and $146 billion, equivalent to at least ₹12 lakh crore. This valuation reflects the company’s expansive footprint in telecommunications as well as its growing ventures in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and enterprise networking.
The IPO proceeds are expected to be primarily used for debt reduction within Jio’s telecom business. The company counts major global investors like Meta and Google among its stakeholders, underscoring its strategic importance in the digital ecosystem.
Jio Platforms’ public offering is particularly notable as it represents the first consumer-facing business under the Reliance Group to go public. This move aligns with broader trends in the Indian market where technology-driven enterprises are increasingly tapping public capital to fuel growth and innovation.
While grey market premiums provide an early glimpse of investor sentiment, they do not guarantee the final IPO pricing or market performance. Investors are advised to consult certified financial experts before making any investment decisions related to the offering.

This IPO is set to be a landmark event, potentially reshaping the investment landscape in the technology and telecom sectors. Market watchers will be closely monitoring the final price band announcement and subscription details in the coming weeks as Jio Platforms prepares for its debut on the stock exchanges.
