Audi India Plans New Launches to Boost Growth in 2026
Audi India anticipates its sales will hold steady in 2026, even as the country's luxury automobile segment is forecasted to grow by about 12 percent. The German automaker is counting on fresh model introductions to stimulate demand and resume double-digit growth in the following year.
During the festive season from October to December, Audi expects increased customer interest, especially with the launch of the new-generation Q3 SUV. Balbir Singh Dhillon, the brand director of Audi India, highlighted that the company’s sales constraints this year stem from limited product availability rather than a lack of consumer demand.
Dhillon explained, "We foresee this year as a flat year with no significant growth or decline. This is primarily because some of our products are nearing the end of their lifecycle." He further added that the upcoming refreshed portfolio will support the company’s goal of achieving double-digit growth starting in 2027.
The new-generation Q3 will be the first major launch, followed by the A5 sedan in the first half of next year, and the Q9 SUV slated for release in the second half. Audi has faced challenges with gaps in its lineup as older models have phased out. For instance, the A4 sedan was available only during the initial six to seven months of 2026, with its successor, the A5, expected to arrive next year.
Dhillon stressed, "Our limitation is not on the demand side but rather on the availability of vehicles." This reflects a broader issue in the luxury car sector, where production cycles and supply chain disruptions have impacted the timely introduction of new models.
Historically, Audi experiences a 20 to 25 percent increase in showroom visits and sales conversions during the festive quarter compared to the preceding three months. The company anticipates the newly launched Q3 SUV will attract significant attention in this period. Early feedback on the Q3 has been positive, although customers await official pricing before placing orders.
With production ramping up over two to three months, Dhillon expects demand for the Q3 to surpass initial supply. This model is a key contributor to Audi’s volumes, typically representing 25 to 30 percent of annual sales when the full range is available. Since its debut in India in 2012, Audi has sold approximately 26,000 units of the Q3.
Looking beyond immediate plans, Audi India has set a target to double its market share from the current 7.5 percent to between 15 and 16 percent within the next three to five years. As part of this strategy, the company intends to expand its dealership network from 28 locations today to 40 by the end of 2027, and further to 50 by 2030.
Regarding the overall luxury vehicle market in India, Dhillon projects sales to increase from about 52,000 units last year to around 58,000 in 2026. This growth rate is slower compared to the broader passenger vehicle market, which is expected to rise about 17 percent, exceeding 5 million units sold.
The relatively modest pace in the luxury segment is partly attributed to currency fluctuations. The euro’s appreciation against the Indian rupee by roughly 19 percent last year, followed by an additional 5 to 6 percent this year, has diminished some of the cost benefits that resulted from recent reductions in goods and services tax (GST) rates.
Dhillon noted that GST cuts had lowered luxury car prices by approximately 6.5 to 7.5 percent. However, the depreciation of the rupee has offset much of this advantage, affecting affordability and pricing dynamics.
Despite these hurdles, Audi India remains focused on strengthening its product offerings and dealership reach to capture a larger share of a market that continues to evolve. The introduction of new models like the Q3, A5, and Q9 are central to the brand’s efforts to regain momentum and appeal to luxury car buyers in India.
