PC Jeweller Becomes Debt-Free, Shares Surge 89% in Six Months

PC Jeweller has successfully eliminated its debt burden by repaying all outstanding amounts to a consortium of 14 banks well before the scheduled deadlines. This development has significantly improved the company’s financial health and balance sheet strength, sparking a notable rise in its stock price.

On Monday, shares of PC Jeweller climbed 4 percent to reach an intraday high of Rs 14.63 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). This surge came after the company announced it had completely settled its dues with the banking consortium, an achievement that has further bolstered investor confidence. Over the past six months, the stock has experienced an impressive gain of 89 percent, reflecting growing market optimism about the company’s prospects.

The debt repayment follows a settlement agreement signed in September 2024 between PC Jeweller and a group of 14 lenders, led by the State Bank of India (SBI). The consortium included major financial institutions such as Union Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, Bank of India, IDBI Bank, and several others. This agreement aimed to resolve a stressed loan book totaling nearly Rs 4,100 crore as of March 2024.

PC Jeweller's repayment of the entire loan book ahead of schedule marks a key milestone in its financial turnaround. The company’s management considers this move crucial for enhancing its financial flexibility and strengthening its balance sheet.

Looking at the stock performance, PC Jeweller shares have rebounded sharply after hitting a 52-week low of Rs 7.47 in March 2024. The price climbed to Rs 14.11 by the end of last week, representing an 89 percent increase over six months. The stock also gained 11 percent in just the last week and 30 percent over the previous month. Year-to-date, the share price has risen more than 52 percent, and over the past year, it has gained 17 percent. Long-term investors have been rewarded even more handsomely, with the stock delivering returns of 443 percent over three years and 439 percent over five years. Currently, PC Jeweller’s market capitalization exceeds Rs 13,760 crore.

The company’s recent financial results underscore the improved business performance driving the stock rally. In August, PC Jeweller reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 222 crore for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2027 (Q1 FY27). This profit figure represents a 37 percent increase compared with Rs 153 crore in the same quarter the previous year. Revenue from operations also grew 21 percent year-on-year, reaching Rs 877 crore during the April-June quarter, up from Rs 725 crore in Q1 FY26.

More impressively, the company’s consolidated operating profit after tax (PAT), excluding other income, jumped to Rs 213 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 79 crore a year earlier. This translates into a robust 168 percent growth in core operating earnings, highlighting a significant turnaround in PC Jeweller’s underlying business performance.

PC Jeweller operates in India’s competitive jewellery sector, which is influenced by factors such as gold prices, consumer demand, and economic conditions. The company’s ability to clear its debt obligations early and improve profitability indicates strong management focus and operational efficiency. These factors have contributed to the growing investor interest and stock price appreciation.

The repayment to the banking consortium and the positive quarterly results provide a foundation for PC Jeweller to pursue further growth opportunities with a stronger financial footing. As the company continues to recover and expand in a dynamic retail environment, market watchers will be keen to see how it leverages its debt-free status to enhance shareholder value.
