Madhya Pradesh Revenue Hits ₹44,711 Crore in First Half of FY27
Madhya Pradesh's revenue collection for the first six months of the fiscal year 2026-27 showed notable growth, reaching ₹44,711 crore. This figure represents an 11.37 percent increase compared to the ₹40,147 crore generated during the same period in the previous year. The combined collections came from three key government departments: Commercial Tax, Excise, and Registration and Stamps.
These departments had set a collective revenue target of ₹47,439 crore for the April to September period. While they fell short by ₹2,728 crore, achieving 94.25 percent of the goal, the overall performance underscores a positive trajectory in tax and fee collections amid ongoing economic activity within the state.
The Commercial Tax Department contributed the largest portion of revenue, amassing ₹28,385 crore. This amount, though substantial, was below its target of ₹30,686 crore, resulting in a 92.50 percent target realization. Compared with ₹26,052 crore collected during April to September 2025, this department recorded an 8.96 percent increase in revenue, highlighting steady growth in indirect tax collections such as GST and sales tax.
Excise Department collections stood out with the highest growth rate among the three, bringing in ₹9,769 crore against a target of ₹9,900 crore. The department reached 98.68 percent of its revenue target, falling short by just ₹131 crore. This marks a 17.77 percent rise from the ₹8,295 crore collected in the corresponding period last year. Excise revenue largely comes from duties on alcohol and other controlled products, reflecting stronger demand or improved compliance.
The Registration and Stamps Department collected ₹6,557 crore, achieving 95.68 percent of its ₹6,853 crore target. This was a 13.06 percent increase over last year’s ₹5,800 crore collection. Revenue from this department typically arises from property registrations, stamp duties, and related government fees, which can indicate sustained real estate activity within Madhya Pradesh.
Examining monthly performance, the departments started FY27 with a robust April 2026 collection of ₹7,938 crore, surpassing the ₹7,411 crore target by ₹527 crore. This represented a sharp 35.74 percent growth compared to April 2025, signaling a strong fiscal start. However, in September 2026, the combined collection was ₹6,676 crore, falling short of the ₹6,936 crore target by ₹260 crore. Despite this, September’s revenue still increased by 12.89 percent over the previous year.
The revenue figures from these departments provide important insight into Madhya Pradesh’s economic health, as tax and fee collections reflect business activity, consumer spending, and property market trends. The ability of the state government to meet or exceed revenue targets is critical for funding public services and development projects.
As the fiscal year progresses, the departments will need to collect an additional ₹2,728 crore in the remaining six months to meet their combined annual target. The steady growth in revenue collection so far suggests that with continued economic activity and effective tax administration, Madhya Pradesh may achieve this goal.
This revenue data from Madhya Pradesh aligns with broader patterns seen in many Indian states where improving tax compliance and expanding economic activity contribute to increased government receipts. Tracking such trends helps understand regional economic dynamics and fiscal stability.
