JSW Energy Secures Turbine Order for 1,600 MW Salboni Phase-II Project

JSW Energy's subsidiary, JSW Thermal Energy, has finalized the purchase of two turbine-generators, each rated at 800 megawatts, from Toshiba JSW Power Systems. This acquisition is for Phase-II of the Salboni Thermal Power Project, located in India.

With this order, JSW Thermal Energy has secured turbine-generator equipment for all four units of the Salboni Project, which totals 3,200 MW capacity. Each unit in the project is designed to generate 800 MW, and the recent order completes the necessary equipment procurement for the entire facility. The manufacturing and delivery of these turbines will follow the project's construction timeline, ensuring alignment with overall development milestones.

JSW Energy operates as a private sector power producer in India and is a key component of the JSW Group. The company has built a diversified portfolio across the power sector, covering multiple stages such as power generation and transmission infrastructure. This diversification reflects the company’s strategy to maintain a broad footprint within the energy market.

Recent financial results from JSW Energy revealed a decline in consolidated net profit for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The net profit fell by 36.62 percent, reaching Rs 470.97 crore compared to Rs 5,207.13 crore during the same quarter in the previous fiscal year. Despite this drop in profitability, the company experienced a modest increase in revenue from operations, which grew by 1.24 percent year-over-year to Rs 5,207.13 crore for the quarter ending June 30, 2026.

JSW Energy’s stock price showed a slight decline, dropping 0.57 percent to close at Rs 507.30 on the Bombay Stock Exchange following the earnings announcement. Market watchers continue to monitor the company’s performance as it executes large-scale projects like the Salboni Thermal Power Plant.

The Salboni Thermal Power Project represents a significant addition to India’s power generation capacity. Coal-based thermal power plants like Salboni play an important role in meeting the country’s growing electricity demand. By investing in advanced turbine technology from Toshiba JSW Power Systems, JSW Energy aims to enhance operational efficiency and reliability at the site.

India’s power sector is undergoing continuous expansion to support industrial growth and urbanization. Projects such as this contribute to the government’s goal of ensuring stable and adequate power supply nationwide. JSW Energy’s completion of turbine-generator orders for the entire 3,200 MW Salboni plant signals progress toward the plant’s eventual commissioning and contribution to the grid.

As the power industry balances the transition towards cleaner energy sources with ongoing reliance on coal, companies like JSW Energy maintain a strategic focus on large-scale thermal projects. These initiatives remain vital to the country’s energy mix, especially as demand peaks during certain periods.

With the Salboni Phase-II turbine order now secured, JSW Thermal Energy is positioned to move ahead with construction and commissioning phases as planned. The collaboration with Toshiba JSW Power Systems underscores the emphasis on sourcing reliable and high-capacity equipment to meet India’s energy needs effectively.
