Netflix Records Highest Quarterly Subscriber Growth in India via Flipkart Deal
Netflix has announced its strongest quarterly performance to date in India, driven largely by a new partnership with e-commerce giant Flipkart. The streaming service reported its highest-ever quarterly increase in paid subscribers for the July to September 2026 period, alongside an 18 percent rise in revenue within the country compared to the previous year.
The details were shared in Netflix’s Q3 2026 shareholder letter, which emphasized the success of its first transaction-based loyalty bundle with Flipkart. Launched on July 31, 2026, this initiative allows Flipkart Plus members to earn a complimentary 30-day Netflix Mobile subscription each month by completing four eligible purchases of at least ₹299. These qualifying transactions can be made across Flipkart’s platforms, including its main e-commerce site, Flipkart Grocery, and quick-commerce service Flipkart Minutes.
This innovative model links routine shopping activity directly to entertainment privileges. Instead of paying separately for their Netflix subscription, customers can unlock access through everyday transactions. If members meet the order requirements again in subsequent months, they can continue to earn the streaming benefit repeatedly.
Netflix highlighted the impact of this approach in its shareholder letter, stating, "With our first transaction-based loyalty bundle with Flipkart, we achieved our largest quarter ever of paid net additions in India and grew Q3 revenue in India around 18 percent year over year on a F/X neutral basis." The company did not disclose exact figures for new subscribers gained through the Flipkart deal or how much the partnership contributed to overall revenue growth.
The collaboration merges Flipkart’s extensive e-commerce, grocery, and quick-commerce operations with Netflix’s streaming platform. This creates a unique transaction-led method for acquiring customers while providing additional value to Flipkart shoppers. By integrating entertainment rewards into its loyalty program, Flipkart encourages members to increase their shopping frequency and consolidate purchases within its ecosystem.
For Netflix, the partnership offers a novel channel to expand its user base in a highly competitive Indian streaming market. The country’s digital entertainment sector has seen intense rivalry as platforms compete on local content, pricing strategies, and distribution partnerships to attract and retain subscribers. Netflix’s move to tie subscriptions to everyday transactions presents a fresh approach in this landscape.
India represents one of the fastest-growing streaming markets globally. With a large population increasingly accessing digital content, companies are exploring various tactics to convert casual viewers into paid subscribers. Flipkart’s loyalty bundle could serve as a valuable case study on how cross-industry partnerships can fuel subscriber growth and revenue.
Overall, this deal underscores the growing importance of innovative customer acquisition models in the streaming industry. By linking retail purchases to entertainment access, Netflix and Flipkart have created a compelling incentive for consumers. The results seen in Q3 2026 suggest that such integrated offerings could become a significant trend in India’s digital economy moving forward.
