Railways Minister Inspects Bharat-Made B28 Bullet Train Production at BEML

Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, paid a detailed visit to BEML’s Aditya manufacturing plant on Sunday to assess the production of the Bharat-made B28 bullet train. This facility is central to India’s ambitious high-speed rail projects, and the minister’s inspection covered various aspects of the train’s manufacturing process.

At the plant, Vaishnaw closely observed the specialized infrastructure designed for precision engineering, including the use of advanced jigs and fixtures essential for fabricating the train’s carbody. These tools play a vital role in maintaining the tight tolerances needed for high-speed rail vehicles.

The visit included a walkthrough of key assembly stages such as underframe construction, sidewall and roof assembly, as well as the integration of the carbody components. The manufacturing process also involves surface preparation and treatment to enhance durability and safety. According to official reports, these rigorously controlled operations ensure the train meets high standards for strength and quality, which are critical for reliable high-speed rail service.

A significant highlight of the minister's review was observing the ‘Squeeze Test’ demonstration. This test subjects the train carbody to specific compressive and tensile forces to evaluate its structural integrity, rigidity, and dimensional stability. Such quality assurance procedures are mandatory for certifying that the train can withstand operational stresses and maintain passenger safety.

Passenger comfort was another focus area during the visit. Vaishnaw examined the seating arrangements, emphasizing the comfort and convenience passengers will experience during high-speed travel. The onboard systems also received attention, with the minister inspecting components like the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system, couplers, and other critical train assemblies that contribute to smooth operation and passenger well-being.

In addition, the minister reviewed the manufacturing of side and roof modules and observed their integration into the final assembly. These modular approaches help streamline production and maintain consistent quality across the train components.

BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) is a key player in India’s rail infrastructure sector, known for manufacturing heavy equipment and now expanding into high-speed train production. The B28 bullet train project represents a significant step for India’s railways, aiming to boost connectivity and reduce travel times between major cities.

The inspection by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw underscores the government’s commitment to advancing indigenous production capabilities for modern rail technology. High-speed rail is a priority for India’s transportation development plans, and ensuring the manufacturing process meets international standards is essential for the success of these initiatives.

This visit, dated November 1, 2026, reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the domestic manufacturing ecosystem and enhance India’s position in the global high-speed rail arena.
