Adani Group Advances Rs 2.6 Lakh Crore Projects in Maharashtra

The Adani Group has announced that it has either completed or is currently working on projects valued at Rs 2.6 lakh crore within Maharashtra, according to Pranav Adani, addressing the launch of the state’s new investment promotion agency, Invest Maharashtra, on Thursday.

Speaking at the event held at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre, Pranav Adani outlined the company’s extensive investment plan in Maharashtra, which totals over Rs 6 lakh crore. This portfolio includes initiatives in diverse sectors such as energy, aviation, aero-districts, urban regeneration, data centers, and coal gasification.

“At the World Economic Forum in Davos and through collaborations with state authorities, the Adani Group has committed investment plans exceeding Rs 6 lakh crore across vital sectors,” Pranav Adani stated. “Projects worth Rs 2.6 lakh crore are already either complete or underway.”

The group’s connection with Maharashtra spans several decades, but recent investments represent a significant scaling up. Maharashtra aims to become a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region positioned as a crucial growth engine.

Among the major ventures highlighted was the management of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) by the Adani Group. Additionally, the development of the greenfield Navi Mumbai International Airport is underway. This new airport is set to become a transformative infrastructure asset, designed to support the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s expansion and capable of handling over 90 million passengers annually in the future.

Pranav Adani also emphasized the group’s plans to create integrated airport business and hospitality districts around both aviation hubs. These districts are intended to enhance urban mobility and commercial activity in the region.

On the energy front, Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) supplies electricity to more than three million homes and businesses across the city. Currently, over 60% of AEML’s power comes from renewable sources, with a target to increase this share to 70% and beyond.

To bolster Mumbai’s power infrastructure, the group operates a 1,000 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission link. This facility delivers resilient, clean energy directly into Mumbai’s financial district, reducing the risk of power outages.

Additionally, the Adani Group is advancing pumped-storage hydro projects across Maharashtra. These initiatives aim to provide green baseload power around the clock, supporting the state’s sustainability goals.

Urban redevelopment is another key area of focus. The Dharavi Redevelopment Project stands out as a significant part of the group’s contribution to Mumbai’s transformation. Pranav Adani described the project as prioritizing people’s dignity and livelihoods. The plan includes creating modern housing before relocating residents, formalizing thousands of small businesses, and preserving the community’s unique character while turning Asia’s largest informal settlement into a vibrant economic hub.

This redevelopment effort is part of the broader “Mumbai 3.0” vision, which seeks to develop a more connected, balanced, and inclusive metropolitan area.

The launch of Invest Maharashtra is expected to facilitate converting investor interest into actionable projects on the ground. Pranav Adani reaffirmed the group’s commitment to working closely with the Maharashtra government and its citizens to support the state’s industrial and economic growth.

“When Maharashtra succeeds, India benefits,” he said, underscoring the importance of these investments for the region’s and country’s futures.

The Adani Group’s expanding footprint in Maharashtra aligns with wider trends in India’s infrastructure and urban development sectors, where private investments are playing an increasingly influential role in shaping economic growth and sustainability.
