HRV Pharma Plans IPO in 2027 with Focus on Niche APIs and Global Expansion
HRV Pharma, a Hyderabad-based company known for its unique virtual pharmaceutical API model, is preparing to enter the public market with an initial public offering (IPO) planned for 2027. Industry insiders have revealed that the company intends to file its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) in the first half of calendar year 2027, contingent on favorable market conditions. With ICICI Securities and Equirus Capital appointed as its bankers, HRV is targeting to raise over Rs 800 crore through this offering.
Unlike traditional pharmaceutical manufacturers, HRV Pharma operates without owning any production facilities. Instead, it leverages partnerships with multiple contract manufacturers to supply bulk drugs and formulations, managing regulatory filings, product control, and customer relationships while maintaining an asset-light approach. This strategy allows the company to scale efficiently, collaborating with 54 manufacturing sites but employing fewer than 60 people.
Founder and CEO Hari Kiran Chereddi shared insights on the company’s growth trajectory and strategic plans. He mentioned that HRV is currently adding dedicated, underwritten capacity at partner facilities to strengthen its manufacturing network. The company anticipates generating revenues of Rs 1,000 crore in the next fiscal year, building on an expected net profit of Rs 80 crore on Rs 600 crore revenue for the current fiscal ending 2027. This marks significant growth from last year’s Rs 310 crore revenue and Rs 40 crore net profit.
HRV’s business model capitalizes on the underutilization of India’s pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity, estimated at 45 to 50 percent. Industry experts note that this environment is conducive to asset-light companies like HRV, which serve as capacity aggregators for manufacturing sites. “The secret sauce lies in the products you offer,” Chereddi explained, emphasizing that many of HRV’s APIs face limited competition in the market.
The company is actively investing Rs 150 crore to expand its capacity in peptide and high-potency oncology APIs. Chereddi highlighted the focus on custom peptides and niche opportunities rather than following mainstream trends. The US market, including the compounding sector, is a key target for this expansion.
HRV specializes in high-value, low-competition APIs across various therapeutic areas, such as central nervous system (CNS) disorders, proton pump inhibitors, orphan drugs, and complex molecules nearing patent expiry. Its portfolio includes APIs like pitolisant, used for narcolepsy; resmetirom, for liver fibrosis; glycerol phenylbutyrate, treating urea cycle disorder; as well as diabetes medications linagliptin and vildagliptin. Other notable products are vonoprazan, a potassium acid blocker, and enclomiphene for female infertility. This diverse range reflects HRV’s commitment to specialty, rare-disease, and differentiated therapies.
The company’s manufacturing collaborators include Metrochem, Arene Lifesciences, and Shodhana Laboratories. All but one of these facilities have approval from the US Food and Drug Administration, underscoring HRV’s adherence to global regulatory standards.
HRV’s revenue sources are well-distributed across key regions including the United States, the Middle East, and Europe. Chereddi noted a significant uptick in contributions from the US market over the past two years as recent product introductions gained traction. Looking forward, the Americas—including North and South America—are expected to become major markets for HRV, alongside emerging opportunities in Canada, Korea, and Japan.
The company is also exploring selective acquisitions aimed at enhancing access to the European market and expanding finished dosage filings. This approach aligns with broader industry trends where pharmaceutical firms are focusing on specialization, asset-light models, and geographic diversification to maintain growth in a competitive landscape.
HRV Pharma’s planned IPO and ongoing strategic initiatives highlight its efforts to carve out a distinct niche within the Indian and global pharmaceutical sectors. By combining a lean operational setup with a focus on specialty APIs and international expansion, HRV is positioning itself for sustained growth amid evolving market dynamics.
