Key Stocks to Watch: Reliance, Coal India, Trent, and More on Earnings Day
After a strong run-up, the Indian stock market appeared set for a pause on Friday as international cues weighed on investor sentiment. The GIFT Nifty futures were down 42 points, or 0.18 percent, at 23,000 by early morning trading. This follows a selloff in Asian markets, where technology stocks led declines in Japan and South Korea, while Australia saw modest gains.
Japan’s Nikkei index fell sharply by 2.8 percent, and South Korea’s KOSPI index dropped 5.5 percent. In contrast, Australia’s ASX 200 managed a 0.56 percent increase. The declines were linked to disappointing earnings reports from major US companies, which triggered a rotation away from artificial intelligence-focused stocks. Overnight, all three major US benchmarks closed in negative territory, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.25 percent, the S&P 500 slipping 0.3 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite dropping 1.37 percent.
Meanwhile, oil prices climbed amid concerns over potential renewed US military action against Iran, which could disrupt supply from the West Asia region. Brent crude futures rose 2.3 percent to $117.6 per barrel, while WTI crude futures gained 2.3 percent to $104.4 per barrel.
