Poonawalla Fincorp Shares Rise 8% After Q2 Profit Soars Fivefold

Poonawalla Fincorp, a non-deposit-taking non-banking financial company (NBFC), saw its shares surge by up to 8 percent during early trading on Monday following a significant increase in its quarterly profit. The firm announced a consolidated profit of ₹375 crore for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027, nearly five times higher than the ₹74 crore recorded in the same quarter last year.

The stock opened with a 6 percent gain at ₹476.90 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and reached an intraday peak of ₹484. However, some of the gains eased later in the session. By 10 am, Poonawalla Fincorp shares were trading 3.1 percent higher at ₹461.75.

Trading activity was robust, with the company’s shares among the most actively exchanged on the NSE by volume and value. Over 15 million shares changed hands within the first 45 minutes of trading, representing a total transaction value of approximately ₹716.46 crore. This strong market interest reflects investor confidence following the company’s latest financial disclosure.

Delving into the financials, the company’s total income rose sharply to ₹2,625 crore in the quarter ending September 30, 2026, up from ₹1,543 crore during the same period in the previous year. Interest income, a key revenue driver for NBFCs, increased to ₹2,416 crore compared to ₹1,402 crore in the year-ago quarter, indicating improved lending operations and asset quality.

Poonawalla Fincorp’s assets under management (AUM) also expanded, reaching ₹74,008 crore as of September 30, 2026. This growth in AUM is a crucial indicator of the company’s expanding loan book and overall financial health, which bodes well for its future income streams.

Harish Jujarey, Assistant Vice President of equity research at Prithvi Finmart, provided insight into the stock’s recent performance and near-term outlook. He noted that Poonawalla Fincorp has been trading within a range of ₹425 to ₹505 over the past several days. Following a rebound from the lower boundary last week, the stock appreciated by over 3 percent in Monday’s session.

Jujarey highlighted ₹505 as a significant resistance level. He explained that a clear breakout above this price point could attract further buying interest and push the shares higher. Until the stock surpasses this hurdle, it is expected to remain within the established trading range.

Poonawalla Fincorp operates in the NBFC sector, which plays a vital role in India’s financial ecosystem by providing credit to underserved segments and supplementing traditional banking channels. The sector has witnessed varying degrees of volatility and regulatory challenges in recent years, but companies that demonstrate strong asset quality and profitable growth continue to attract investor attention.

The company’s impressive second-quarter performance reflects its ability to capitalize on rising demand for credit and manage risk effectively. As NBFCs often rely heavily on interest income, the nearly doubled interest revenue underscores Poonawalla Fincorp’s improving operational efficiency and market positioning.

Investors and market watchers will likely keep a close eye on the company’s upcoming quarters to see if it can sustain this momentum amid a competitive lending environment. Given its expanding AUM and profitability, Poonawalla Fincorp remains a notable player in the non-banking financial space.
