BVG India Prioritizes Profitable Long-Term Contracts, Says CMD
BVG India, a company known for managing facilities at airports, railway stations, and bus fleets, is shifting its strategic focus towards acquiring long-term contracts that offer stronger profit margins and quicker cash conversion. This approach comes as the company has reached a stage where it can be more discerning about the projects it accepts, said Chairman and Managing Director Hanmantrao Gaikwad in an interview on Tuesday.
Traditionally, BVG India has been involved in a diverse range of facility management services across various transportation hubs. The company’s portfolio includes managing airport terminals, railway stations, and public bus operations, making it a significant player in India’s integrated services sector. Facing a competitive market, BVG India is now aiming to prioritize contracts that not only secure better returns on investment but also provide greater clarity and predictability on revenue streams and profit margins.
Gaikwad explained that the company’s current financial health and operational scale have enabled it to be selective about the type of contracts it pursues. He emphasized that rather than chasing rapid growth through low-margin projects, BVG India prefers agreements that ensure sustained profitability and efficient cash flow management.
"We have reached a point where we can focus on contracts that deliver good returns and offer visibility on revenues and margins," Gaikwad said. "This allows us to maintain financial discipline and invest resources more effectively in projects that align with our long-term strategic goals."
The shift in strategy reflects broader trends in the facility management industry, where companies increasingly prioritize sustainable and profitable growth over volume-driven expansion. Given the capital-intensive nature of infrastructure-related services, managing cash flow and maintaining healthy margins are crucial for long-term success.
Industry analysts note that BVG India’s approach aligns with the evolving market dynamics, where clients prefer service providers with proven track records in delivering quality and cost-effective solutions over extended contract periods. Long-term agreements typically offer service providers stable revenue and operational predictability, reducing the risks associated with short-term contracts.
By focusing on contracts with better terms, BVG India aims to strengthen its position in the integrated facility management sector, which is witnessing growing demand due to expanding transportation infrastructure across India. Airports and railway stations are increasingly outsourcing their facility operations to specialized firms to enhance efficiency and passenger experience, creating opportunities for firms like BVG India.
Gaikwad also highlighted that faster cash collection cycles from these contracts help improve the company’s working capital position, enabling reinvestment in technology and workforce development. This reinvestment is essential for maintaining high service standards and meeting the evolving expectations of clients.
Looking forward, BVG India’s strategy suggests a prudent approach to growth, balancing ambition with financial sustainability. The company’s focus on long-term, profitable contracts positions it well to navigate the challenges of the facility management industry while contributing to the modernization of India’s transportation infrastructure.
