MakeO Secures ₹90 Crore to Boost Dental Care Expansion in India and SE Asia

MakeO, the parent company behind the Indian clear aligner brand Toothsi, announced it has successfully raised ₹90 crore in its latest funding round. This investment was led by Singularity AMC, with additional backing from DSP family office, Genesis, and Unispace Ventures. The capital injection highlights strong investor belief in MakeO’s vision to establish a premier dental and aligner technology platform serving India and Southeast Asia.

This fundraising milestone comes shortly after MakeO’s strategic acquisition of Singapore-based Zenyum, a move that significantly broadens its footprint across Southeast Asia. The combined group now collaborates with approximately 1,100 partner dentists spread over 10 countries, reinforcing its position as a key player in the regional dental care sector. In India, MakeO has further solidified its presence by acquiring Apple Dental, a chain of 20 clinics operating in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, extending its reach beyond the major metropolitan areas.

Dr Arpi Mehta, Group CEO and co-founder of MakeO, emphasized the company's ambitious goals: "We aspire to revolutionize the global aligner and oral care category. The capital from this funding round will support both organic growth and strategic acquisitions, enhancing our physical presence in India and Southeast Asia. Additionally, it will enable us to invest in our integrated platform, improving consumer experience, clinical operations, backend technology, and manufacturing capabilities."

MakeO’s operational strategy is driven by its "Make in India, for the world" philosophy. At its core is a comprehensive planning and manufacturing center located in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. This facility annually produces over one million US FDA-approved clear aligners, catering to dentists and patients in more than 150 Indian cities. It also exports products to over 10 countries, leveraging the distribution networks of both Toothsi and Zenyum.

Co-founder Dr Pravin Shetty shared insights into the company’s technological focus, noting their emphasis on digital innovation and artificial intelligence. "We have established a manufacturing unit for aligners alongside a 3D virtual AI-powered orthodontic treatment planning center of excellence," he explained. This integration supports precise, scalable dental care solutions tailored to consumer needs.

Financially, MakeO has reached impressive milestones. Its unified platform has generated revenue exceeding ₹500 crore and achieved EBITDA profitability earlier this year. With the fresh infusion of funds, the company aims to double its revenue over the next two to three years. Part of this growth strategy involves actively exploring mergers and acquisitions related to dental care and aligners within India and Southeast Asia, focusing on expanding physical service locations.

Manjul Jain, co-founder of MakeO, highlighted the technological advancements underpinning the company’s growth. "This funding enhances our capacity to design and manufacture world-class products using the latest 3D printing and robotic automation technologies in Mumbai. We then deliver these products across more than 100 cities in India and 10 countries globally," Jain said.

The dental care market in India and Southeast Asia is witnessing rising demand for advanced orthodontic treatments such as clear aligners, driven by increasing consumer awareness and improved access to dental services. MakeO’s approach, combining technology with an expanding clinical network, positions it well to capture a growing share of this market.

As the company continues to scale, its emphasis on integrating AI and digital platforms with offline clinics suggests a comprehensive model that could reshape dental care delivery in the region. The recent funding round provides the resources necessary to accelerate these efforts and extend MakeO’s influence across a broader geographic area.
