The Indian stock market saw moderate gains on Wednesday as the Sensex advanced by 253.42 points, or 0.33 percent, to reach 77,171.27 by mid-afternoon. The Nifty50 index also moved higher, adding 82.55 points, or 0.35 percent, to 23,893.40 during the same period. Market activity was characterized by selective buying, with investors closely watching quarterly earnings reports from several prominent companies.

Among sectoral movements, the Nifty IT index experienced a notable decline, dropping more than 2 percent. This reflected some profit booking and cautious sentiment in technology stocks amid mixed results. In contrast, FMCG stocks showed strength, with companies like Godrej Consumer Products, Varun Beverages, and Dabur India emerging as top gainers within the segment.

Several companies released their second-quarter financial results on Wednesday, influencing stock price movements. Zydus Lifesciences faced pressure after reporting a 26.6 percent year-on-year decrease in net profit, which fell to ₹925.5 crore in Q2 of the current fiscal year from ₹1,260.07 crore during the same period last year. Following this announcement, the company's shares dropped 4.7 percent, closing at ₹1,182.40.

On the positive side, Redington's consolidated net profit surged by 39.6 percent year-on-year to ₹541.32 crore in the September quarter. Investors responded favorably, pushing Redington shares up by 6.9 percent to ₹358.50. Similarly, Marksans Pharma reported a 44.8 percent increase in net profit to ₹144 crore, resulting in a 3.7 percent rise in its share price to ₹327.

Dr. Lal Path Labs also delivered encouraging results, with consolidated net profit climbing 25.05 percent year-on-year to ₹192.2 crore for Q2. The company declared an interim dividend of ₹5 per equity share for the financial year 2027, with the record date set for November 11. This news helped support the stock price during trading.

Another notable performer was H.G. Infra Engineering, whose profit after tax increased by 51.5 percent year-on-year to ₹79.1 crore in Q2. The stock gained 4.01 percent, reaching ₹405 on the National Stock Exchange. The infrastructure sector's recovery has been under close watch as government spending and private investments show signs of resurgence.

Looking ahead, Titan Company shares climbed 2.1 percent to ₹4,657 as traders anticipated the upcoming release of the company's Q2 results. Analysts expect a 27 percent increase in net profit, driven by robust growth in the jewellery business segment, which remains a key contributor to Titan's overall performance.

Meanwhile, commodity prices continue to influence market sentiment. Gold prices have declined by approximately 25 percent from their peak in January 2026. This trend has sparked debate among investors and consumers ahead of the Dhanteras festival, a traditionally auspicious time for purchasing gold. The question remains whether this dip presents a buying opportunity or if prices could fall further.

Overall, the market's mixed movement reflects a balance between positive corporate earnings in some sectors and caution in others. Investors remain attentive to quarterly results and macroeconomic factors as the financial year progresses. The performance of major indices like the Sensex and Nifty will likely continue to be shaped by earnings reports, commodity price fluctuations, and global economic developments.
