Camlin Fine Sciences Shares Drop 18% After Weak Q2 Results, Hit 52-Week Low

Camlin Fine Sciences experienced a sharp decline in its share price on Wednesday after releasing its financial results for the second quarter ended September 2026 (Q2FY27). The stock plunged 18 per cent during intraday trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), reaching a 52-week low of ₹75.05. This drop surpassed the previous low of ₹79 recorded on October 23, 2026, and marked a significant fall from the 52-week high of ₹202.55 seen on November 4, 2025, representing a decline of 63 per cent over the past year.

At 12:36 PM, shares were trading around ₹75.90, down 17 per cent compared to a marginal 0.03 per cent decrease in the BSE Sensex. Investor activity surged with roughly 4.55 million shares exchanged across the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE, indicating heightened market interest following the disappointing quarterly report.

The company posted revenue of ₹491.5 crore for Q2FY27, reflecting a 9.15 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. However, profitability was under strain due to escalating raw material costs, which contributed to a contraction in gross margin to 39.8 per cent from 46.5 per cent in Q2FY26. Limited ability to pass on these costs to customers and ongoing liquidity challenges further pressured earnings.

Camlin Fine Sciences reported an EBITDA of ₹2.23 crore for the quarter, a steep drop from ₹35.63 crore recorded a year earlier. The EBITDA margin narrowed sharply to 0.45 per cent from 7.91 per cent in Q2FY26. The company also disclosed a net loss of ₹28.08 crore, compared to a smaller loss of ₹1.87 crore in the prior-year quarter.

Management highlighted that sustained high raw material prices, elevated freight expenses, prolonged transit times, and extended working capital cycles had a detrimental effect on financial performance. These factors combined to increase operating costs and limit profitability.

Looking ahead to fiscal year 2027, Camlin Fine Sciences anticipates continued growth in its blends segment across all markets. The integration of acquired entities Vitafor and Vinpai is expected to stabilize, while the aroma segment is projected to see volume and price improvement in upcoming quarters. Nevertheless, the company warned that logistical disruptions and inflationary pressures will likely continue to challenge operations in the near term.

To address liquidity constraints, the board has approved a rights issue to raise up to ₹250 crore. This capital infusion aims to support working capital needs and ease financial pressures.

Analysts from Axis Securities attributed the weak Q2FY27 showing to the surge in raw material and freight costs, combined with limited cost pass-through and tight working capital. They noted that the rights issue should help normalize working capital and reduce reliance on costly channel financing. While management expects Q3FY27 results to remain at similar levels, a recovery is anticipated in Q4FY27, with targets set for revenue exceeding ₹600 crore and EBITDA of at least ₹60 crore. Achieving this outlook depends heavily on successful rights issue execution, improved cash flow, and margin recovery.

The blends division continues to perform well, driven by demand in food, feed, pet food, and functional ingredient markets. Camlin Fine Sciences offers over 200 customized formulations, with recent acquisitions expected to enhance its presence in higher-value natural and functional ingredients. Analysts project blends margins to rise from the current 11-12 per cent range to 13-14 per cent soon, and eventually to 14-15 per cent, supporting overall profit improvement.

The aroma segment faces near-term headwinds from a transition in products, reduced capacity utilization, and pricing pressure linked to Chinese-origin inventory surplus. Management expects this inventory situation to improve by the end of calendar year 2026. The company targets quarterly vanillin volumes of approximately 1,000 metric tons starting Q4FY27, which could generate incremental quarterly revenue of ₹65-70 crore, providing operating leverage as capacity utilization enhances. Monitoring volume and pricing recovery in vanillin remains crucial for future earnings.

Based on its analysis, Axis Securities has maintained a 'Buy' rating on Camlin Fine Sciences with a revised target price of ₹145 per share, down from ₹165 previously. Investors are advised to watch the company’s execution on its financial plans and operational improvements closely.

Camlin Fine Sciences operates in the specialty chemicals sector, focusing on natural and functional ingredients used in food, feed, and aroma applications. The company’s performance reflects broader challenges in commodity pricing and supply chain disruptions affecting many industries. Its efforts to strengthen the blends segment and stabilize the aroma division are key to regaining profitability and market confidence.
