Shoppers Stop Reports ₹3.11 Cr Profit in Q2, Revenue Up 9%
Shoppers Stop, a prominent Indian retail chain, announced a consolidated net profit of ₹3.11 crore for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027. This marks a significant turnaround from the ₹20.11 crore net loss recorded in the same quarter last year. The improvement was largely attributed to the company’s focus on a premiumisation-led growth strategy.
Revenue from operations for the quarter ending September 2026 increased by 8.72 percent, reaching ₹1,366.27 crore compared to ₹1,256.62 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The retail chain, promoted by the Raheja family, disclosed these figures in a regulatory filing, highlighting the positive impact of its strategic initiatives.
Shoppers Stop credited its profitability to the premiumisation approach that has helped shift its business dynamics and contributed to a positive profit after tax (PAT) performance. Despite a rise in total expenses by 7.11 percent to ₹1,385.02 crore, the company's total income, which includes other income streams, grew 9.7 percent to ₹1,389.15 crore.
Managing Director and CEO Kavindra Mishra remarked on the company’s robust Q2 performance, especially notable given that the festive shopping season largely moved into the third quarter this year. Mishra emphasized that the company’s consistent emphasis on enhancing the premium shopping experience, maintaining strict inventory discipline, and operational efficiency has resonated well with consumers. He stated, "Our continued focus on premiumisation, experiential retail, inventory discipline and operational excellence is resonating well with customers and strengthening the quality of growth. We remain committed to prudent capital allocation, further improving profitability, and achieving our goal of becoming debt-free by the end of Q3."
Shoppers Stop operates an extensive retail network that includes 119 department stores across 75 cities, covering approximately 4.6 million square feet. The chain also runs 12 premium home concept stores and 73 specialty beauty outlets featuring well-known international brands such as M.A.C, Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Jo Malone, NARS, Armani Beauty, Prada Beauty, and SS Beauty. Besides these, the company manages 82 Intune stores along with three airport outlets.
The company’s strategic positioning in the mid-to-premium retail segment has helped it navigate a competitive and evolving market landscape. The Indian retail sector has been gradually shifting towards premiumization as consumer preferences evolve, with more shoppers seeking higher quality products and experiential retail environments. This trend aligns with Shoppers Stop’s efforts to differentiate itself through curated brand offerings and enhanced in-store experiences.
Despite the positive quarterly results, Shoppers Stop’s stock price on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed at ₹363 per share on the Wednesday preceding the earnings announcement. This represented a decline of 5.63 percent from its previous closing value, reflecting broader market movements and investor sentiment that can be influenced by multiple factors beyond quarterly earnings.
Looking ahead, Shoppers Stop’s management remains focused on sustaining growth by leveraging its premiumisation strategy while managing costs and capital to improve profitability. The company’s goal of becoming debt-free by the end of the third quarter demonstrates a commitment to financial discipline, which could support long-term stability and expansion in a competitive retail market.
As consumer spending patterns continue to evolve in India, companies like Shoppers Stop that adapt by investing in premium brands and customer experience may have an advantage. Their ability to balance operational efficiency with appealing product assortments will be critical in maintaining momentum in the coming quarters.
