HDFC Bank is anticipated to report modest profit growth during this quarter, reflecting a continuation of its steady performance. The bank’s expected low single-digit increase in net profit is attributed to strong deposit inflows, particularly from FCNR(B) deposits, which have helped to bolster its deposit base. However, these gains may be tempered by pressure on net interest margins. Notably, this quarter marks the final earnings report under the current Managing Director and CEO, Sashidhar Jagdishan, whose tenure concludes on October 26. Anup Bagchi is slated to take over the leadership role, signaling a significant transition at one of India’s largest private sector lenders.

According to Kotak Institutional Equities, the banking sector is expected to maintain stable earnings overall. Private sector banks are projected to deliver around 20 percent year-on-year profit growth, partly driven by a low base effect at some institutions. Conversely, public sector banks might experience flat earnings for this period, reflecting ongoing challenges in the sector.

Axis Bank’s performance outlook for Q2FY27 appears robust, with forecasts suggesting a net profit increase between 37 and 43 percent compared to the same quarter last year. This growth is supported by loan advances expanding by 20 to 22 percent year-on-year. Despite this positive trend, the bank may see a slight sequential dip in net interest margins by 7 to 12 basis points, largely due to the higher mobilization of FCNR(B) deposits. Asset quality is expected to remain stable, providing some reassurance to investors concerned about credit risk.

Alongside these banking giants, other companies releasing their quarterly results include Rossari Biotech, Bajaj Healthcare, Kross, Cupid Breweries and Distilleries, Midland Polymers, Indo Cotspin, TGB Banquets and Hotels, Gagan Gases, and Hemo Organic. These firms represent a variety of industries such as healthcare, consumer goods, manufacturing, and hospitality, reflecting the broad economic activity in India.

Market sentiment leading into the earnings announcements was positive. On October 16, the Sensex climbed 413.7 points, or 0.56 percent, closing at 74,729.27, while the Nifty50 index rose 148.8 points, or 0.65 percent, finishing at 23,146.15. IT sector heavyweights Tech Mahindra, TCS, and Infosys were among the top contributors to the gains, with the Nifty IT index emerging as the best-performing sector. In contrast, the Oil and Gas index underperformed, posting the largest decline among sectoral indices.

As these firms release their earnings, market participants will assess the implications for the broader economy and sector-specific outlooks.
