On October 19, 2026, several major Indian companies released their financial results for the second quarter, reflecting a varied performance across sectors. Hindustan Zinc led the pack with a remarkable profit surge, while UltraTech Cement reported a sequential decline in net income despite growth in revenue and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA). Other firms such as Union Bank of India and L&T Technology Services (LTTS) also posted notable gains, highlighting a dynamic corporate earnings landscape.

Hindustan Zinc Reports Historic Earnings

Hindustan Zinc delivered its highest-ever quarterly results, showcasing a 142 percent rise in net profit to ₹6,412 crore for Q2 FY27. The company’s EBITDA more than doubled year-on-year, reaching ₹9,285 crore, establishing an industry-leading margin of 62 percent. Amit Gupta, the company's Chief Financial Officer, emphasized the firm’s strong cash flow and disciplined financial management as key drivers behind these results. Hindustan Zinc’s CEO, Amarendu Prakash, highlighted record metal production levels and stressed the company’s commitment to growth, innovation through artificial intelligence, and contributions to India’s energy transition.

The company’s success was propelled by increased metal output, favorable metal prices, improved cost efficiencies, and a stronger U.S. dollar. These factors combined to boost both profitability and operational strength, underscoring Hindustan Zinc’s position as a leader in the mining sector.

UltraTech Cement Sees Mixed Q2 Performance

UltraTech Cement reported a 14 percent volume growth in cement sales during Q2, slightly below the anticipated 15 percent. Revenue rose to ₹23,300 crore from ₹19,600 crore a year earlier, surpassing estimates of ₹22,500 crore. EBITDA also improved to ₹3,720 crore, exceeding the forecast of ₹3,610 crore and reflecting a margin increase to 16 percent.

Despite these positive indicators, net profit declined to ₹1,490 crore, missing the expected ₹1,553 crore. Additionally, the company’s debt increased to ₹23,500 crore from ₹21,300 crore in the previous quarter. This rise in debt, coupled with the modest shortfall in profit and volume targets, warrants close observation as UltraTech continues to pursue expansion and manage its cash flows. Notably, K. K. Maheshwari announced his resignation as Non-Executive Vice Chairman effective January 1, 2027, with K. C. Jhanwar set to take over the role.

Banking and Technology Firms Report Gains

Union Bank of India recorded a 30 percent increase in standalone net profit to ₹5,537 crore for Q2. The bank’s net interest income grew by 20 percent year-on-year, supported by a near halving of provisions and improved asset quality. Management expressed intentions to increase the current and savings account (CASA) ratio to 36 percent and push the net interest margin above 3 percent, key metrics that contribute to reducing funding costs and boosting profitability.

L&T Technology Services (LTTS) posted a 66.78 percent rise in consolidated net profit to ₹548.2 crore, driven by a one-time gain from selling its Smart World and Communication business. Revenue increased 12.1 percent to ₹3,040.4 crore, supported by the execution of large deals secured in recent quarters.

HFCL’s standalone profit after tax stood at ₹268.02 crore, while Piramal Finance reported a standalone PAT of ₹529.21 crore, nearly doubling from ₹277.67 crore in the same quarter last year. Mangalam Worldwide, a stainless steel manufacturer, experienced a 30.9 percent profit increase to ₹13.82 crore, spurred by strong export growth across over 30 countries.

Real Estate and Other Sectors Show Divergent Trends

In contrast, Sobha Ltd, a real estate developer, saw its consolidated net profit plummet 55 percent to ₹32.95 crore due to reduced income. Total revenue declined to ₹1,017.21 crore in Q2 from ₹1,469.32 crore in the prior year’s quarter.

These results come amid a mixed market environment, with the Sensex closing 876.37 points lower at 73,852.90 and the Nifty 50 down 257.20 points to 22,888.95 ahead of a market holiday. Investors remain watchful of corporate earnings as companies navigate inflation, interest rates, and global economic pressures.

Overall, the Q2 financial disclosures highlight strong performances in mining, banking, and technology sectors, while some industries face challenges linked to market demand and operational costs. These outcomes will influence investment sentiment and strategic decisions in the coming quarters.
