NuSynth Technologies Secures ₹36.5 Crore Seed Funding to Advance Chemical Process Innovation
NuSynth Technologies, a research-driven platform focused on innovating complex chemical processes, has successfully raised ₹36.5 crore (approximately $4 million) in seed funding. This financing round was co-led by venture capital firms Avaana Capital and Shastra VC, reflecting strong investor confidence in NuSynth’s approach to transforming chemical manufacturing.
The fresh capital injection will be directed towards expanding the company’s research and development (R&D) infrastructure, enhancing proprietary process development, scaling up production capabilities, and strengthening the team. NuSynth aims to tackle challenges faced by the Indian chemical industry, which despite considerable growth, still depends heavily on intricate, multi-step synthesis methods to produce essential molecules. These conventional methods drive up costs, increase reliance on imported chemical intermediates, and involve hazardous substances, all of which complicate efforts to scale production.
India’s chemical manufacturing sector plays a crucial role in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, electronic chemicals, and other high-value industries. However, the industry often grapples with inefficiencies in process economics and sustainability. NuSynth’s strategy involves rethinking chemical synthesis from the ground up instead of making minor adjustments to existing processes. This includes reassessing starting materials, exploring alternative reaction pathways, and optimizing the economics of the entire process to boost efficiency, yield, safety, and scalability.
Central to NuSynth’s innovation is its use of artificial intelligence. The platform collects and analyzes experimental data to build a proprietary knowledge base that enhances decision-making for molecule selection and process design. This AI-driven approach has the potential to shorten the traditional lengthy R&D cycles and accelerate the commercialization of new synthetic routes.
Initially, the company is focusing on sectors such as pharmaceuticals and electronic chemicals, where the need for efficient and sustainable chemical processes is pressing. Over time, NuSynth plans to broaden its impact across various chemistry-driven industries, aiming to foster a more self-reliant and innovative domestic chemical manufacturing ecosystem.
Poorvank Purohit, co-founder and CEO of NuSynth Technologies, emphasized the company’s vision: "We believe the next chapter will be defined by our ability to innovate on the underlying chemistry itself. Our ambition is to build proprietary processes from India that can deliver superior economics and sustainability, and serve customers across global markets." His perspective highlights the company’s goal to not just compete domestically, but also to become a significant player internationally by leveraging indigenous innovation.
The founding team at NuSynth combines deep scientific knowledge with extensive industry and commercial experience. Poorvank Purohit brings a wealth of leadership experience from his previous role as MD and CEO at Solara Active Pharma Sciences, alongside established global customer relationships. Dr. Ramesha A R, with postdoctoral research experience at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), contributes strong scientific and R&D expertise. Additional team members Abhishek Deo and Dipak Bajaj add operational and business acumen, having worked with companies like Zetwerk, Mstack, Ola, JPMorgan, BlackBuck, and SUN Mobility. The team has a proven track record of scaling startups from inception to unicorn status and public market success.
Investors have expressed strong support for NuSynth’s innovative model. Shruti Srivastava, partner at Avaana Capital, noted, "We believe NuSynth’s approach will improve the economics, resource efficiency and resilience of chemical manufacturing across critical sectors, while creating globally competitive technology platforms from India." Similarly, Avijeet Alagathi, managing partner at Shastra VC, praised the founding team for combining scientific depth with industry experience and strong execution capabilities. He added, "This combination, along with its data and AI engine, strongly positions NuSynth to build a differentiated process innovation platform from India for global markets."
The seed funding raises the profile of NuSynth Technologies as a promising startup poised to bring meaningful change to India’s chemical manufacturing landscape. By focusing on fundamental process redesign and integrating AI, the company aims to drive cost-effective, sustainable, and scalable chemical synthesis solutions. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance India’s self-sufficiency in critical chemical production and reduce dependency on imports, a priority for industry stakeholders and policymakers alike.
