Colgate India Reports 12.2% Sales Growth, Profit Up 4.3% in Q2
Colgate-Palmolive (India) announced its financial results for the quarter ending September 2026, revealing a 12.2 percent increase in net sales, which rose to ₹1,691.57 crore from ₹1,507.24 crore recorded in the same period last year. Despite this robust sales growth, the company’s net profit experienced a more modest increase of 4.3 percent, climbing from ₹327.51 crore to ₹341.57 crore.
The slower profit growth compared to sales was mainly attributed to a significant rise in advertising expenditure. Colgate invested ₹314.82 crore in advertising during the quarter, marking a 39.9 percent increase or an additional ₹89.72 crore. This was a strategic decision aimed at bolstering brand presence and supporting premium product segments, though the higher marketing spend tempered earnings gains. Advertising costs now represent 18.6 percent of net sales, up from 14.9 percent the previous year.
Manish Anandani, Managing Director and CEO of Colgate-Palmolive India, emphasized the company’s focus on strengthening its market position through brand building and premiumisation efforts. "Capitalising on this healthy and competitive margin profile, we further stepped up investments in brand building and premiumisation throughout the quarter," he said.
The oral care leader maintained its momentum with a second consecutive quarter of double-digit domestic growth. Toothpaste volume expanded in the high single digits, driven by popular premium lines and the Colgate MaxFresh variant. The company’s ongoing strategy to introduce innovative products and targeted marketing campaigns has helped sustain consumer interest and volume gains.
Gross margin improved slightly from 69.2 percent to 69.6 percent, supported by the company’s ongoing Funding the Growth cost-efficiency initiative. However, the net profit margin declined from 21.7 percent to 20.2 percent, reflecting that the increase in sales and cost savings did not fully offset the expanded advertising and employee expenses. Profit before tax grew by 4.1 percent to ₹460.22 crore, while employee costs rose 15.1 percent to ₹135.92 crore.
Adjusted net profit, which excludes one-time items including a charge linked to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) inverted duty structure, showed a 5.5 percent increase. The exact amount of this charge was not disclosed separately in the earnings release, and the quarterly financial statements did not report any exceptional expenses.
Colgate continued to diversify its product portfolio by launching themed oral care items such as Harry Potter-branded products and Bluey toothpaste featuring a pump dispenser designed for convenience. Marketing campaigns during the quarter included efforts to promote Colgate Visible White and partnerships with notable athletes endorsing Colgate Total, strengthening the brand’s presence across different consumer segments.
The company’s promotional activities are set to continue in the third quarter with a collaboration involving the popular television show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Actor Amitabh Bachchan will feature in 100 episode-specific messages encouraging consumers to adopt night-time brushing habits, a move expected to sustain demand.
Looking at the first half of the year, Colgate-Palmolive India reported net sales of ₹3,282.13 crore, up 12.1 percent from ₹2,927.88 crore in the previous year. Net profit for the six-month period increased 5.6 percent to ₹684.65 crore, compared to ₹648.13 crore a year ago. The company’s board declared an interim dividend of ₹24 per share, amounting to a payout of ₹652.77 crore, with November 2 set as the record date and payments commencing on November 19.
Manish Anandani reaffirmed the company’s approach to managing fluctuating commodity costs through disciplined cost controls and cautious pricing adjustments. This financial discipline is intended to protect margins while sustaining growth in a competitive oral care market.
Colgate-Palmolive India’s results highlight its steady performance in a dynamic consumer goods sector, where innovation, brand strength, and strategic investments in marketing remain key drivers of success.
