Thomas Cook India Q2 Profit Drops 24%, Revenue Declines Amid Challenges

Thomas Cook (India) Limited, a Mumbai-based travel and hospitality company, announced its consolidated financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027 on Monday. The company reported a net profit of ₹53.7 crore, marking a 24 percent decrease compared to ₹70.7 crore recorded during the same period last year. Revenue from operations also declined, falling to ₹1,944.2 crore from ₹2,073.8 crore year-over-year.

Despite the drop in overall profits and revenue, the company’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) showed a slight improvement, increasing by 3 percent to ₹151.2 crore from ₹147 crore in Q2FY26. This indicates some operational efficiency gains amid challenging market conditions.

Mahesh Iyer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Thomas Cook (India) Limited, commented on the quarterly performance, highlighting the group's resilience. He stated, "Q2 FY27 again demonstrated the resilience of the TCIL Group with PBT holding firm at Rs 84.8 crore despite the continued impact of the West Asia conflict. Disciplined execution with a clear focus on margins helped us offset some shortfall in the travel business." The reference to the West Asia conflict underscores the ongoing geopolitical tensions that have affected travel demand and operational costs.

On a standalone basis, Thomas Cook India posted a net profit of ₹45.1 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, representing a 4 percent decline from ₹46.9 crore in the prior year period. This reflects similar pressures faced across the group's operations.

The company’s financial services segment stood out as a bright spot during the quarter. Revenue from this division grew by 21 percent year-on-year in Q2FY27 and by 14 percent in the first half of FY27. This segment includes foreign exchange, insurance, and other financial products, which appear to be contributing positively to the company’s overall performance.

In the travel business, Thomas Cook experienced a mixed quarter. The India travel segment showed a sharp recovery despite a slow start in July, although the overall quarterly revenue ended 6 percent lower compared to the previous year. The overseas destination management business also showed signs of recovery, even as the West Asia conflict continued to impact international travel routes and customer confidence.

Another notable development was the expansion of the company’s leisure hospitality portfolio. Thomas Cook opened seven new resorts during Q2FY27, the highest number for any quarter to date. These new properties are located in Jagdalpur, Sattal, Agra, Varanasi, Corbett, Tadoba, and Jawai, enhancing the company’s footprint in the leisure travel and hospitality sector.

Looking forward, the company remains cautiously optimistic. Forward bookings in the leisure travel segment for the upcoming quarter (Q3FY27) have shown a robust 30 percent growth compared to last year. This increase in bookings comes despite elevated airfares and higher input costs, which continue to challenge the travel industry globally.

Mr. Iyer added, "Looking ahead, we are optimistic of continued momentum in India leisure travel, with forward bookings trending at a healthy 30 percent growth over last year - even in the face of elevated airfares and other input costs. This is a positive signal for the current quarter and beyond." This outlook reflects a broader trend in the travel sector where domestic leisure travel is recovering faster than international travel, supported by pent-up demand and easing pandemic restrictions.

Thomas Cook (India) Limited operates in a competitive travel and hospitality market that has faced significant disruptions over recent years. The company’s focus on diversifying revenue streams through financial services and expanding its leisure hospitality offerings appears to be a strategic effort to mitigate volatility in core travel operations. As the global travel industry adapts to ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges, Thomas Cook’s performance will likely be influenced by its ability to manage costs and capitalize on emerging travel trends.
