Jio Financial Shares Drop 26% YTD, Hit 52-Week Low Amid Market Slump
Shares of Jio Financial Services experienced a significant decline on September 29, falling more than 2 percent and reaching a new 52-week low. This drop reflects broader pressures in the equity markets, with the stock now down over 25 percent since the start of the year. The recent fall below key support levels has raised questions about whether the stock will stabilize or continue its downward trend.
Technical analysts have pointed to several important price thresholds that could influence the stock’s direction in the near term. Hitesh Rathi, a Technical Analyst specializing in Equity and Derivatives at Angel One, indicated that the current price action is nearing a reversal of the gains made during last year’s recovery phase. He identified the price range between ₹205 and ₹200 as a critical long-term support zone. However, the break below ₹230, which had previously served as a strong support earlier in 2026, suggests that sellers have gained the upper hand. Rathi expects the stock may retest the ₹205–₹200 level in the coming sessions.
Similarly, Sudeep Shah, Vice President of Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, noted a weakening trend in the weekly chart. According to Shah, Jio Financial has slipped below the ₹225–₹223 support range and is trading well below its key moving averages. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands below 40 on both daily and weekly charts, signaling weak momentum. Additionally, the rising Average Directional Index (ADX) points to strengthening bearish sentiment. Shah highlighted that the ₹224–₹226 band could act as immediate resistance, and as long as the stock remains below this zone, the bearish outlook is likely to continue. On the downside, he identified ₹215–₹213 as the next support level, with a further potential drop toward ₹207–₹205 if that support fails.
Despite the recent share price weakness, Jio Financial Services reported strong financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company posted a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of ₹830 crore, marking a 156 percent increase year-over-year. This robust growth was driven by expansion across its lending, payments, asset management, and insurance divisions.
The unaudited financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, reveal consolidated total income (excluding dividend income) surged 141 percent year-over-year to ₹1,496 crore. Pre-provisioning operating profit (PPOP), excluding dividend income, rose 38 percent to ₹505 crore, while profit before tax (PBT) excluding dividend income increased 18 percent to ₹461 crore. When including dividend income, PBT jumped 131 percent year-over-year to ₹970 crore, underscoring the positive impact of dividend receipts on overall profitability.
As of June 30, 2026, the company’s consolidated shareholders’ equity stood at ₹1.37 lakh crore. During the quarter, Jio Financial received the second tranche of ₹5,934 crore from its promoter group, bringing the total capital infusion from promoters to ₹9,890 crore.
Jio Financial Services operates in the growing Indian financial services sector, which has witnessed rapid expansion fueled by digital adoption and diverse financial products. The company’s focus on multiple business lines, including lending and payments, positions it to capitalize on emerging opportunities despite short-term market volatility. Investors and market watchers will be closely monitoring upcoming price movements as technical indicators suggest key levels that could determine the stock’s trajectory.
Given the stock’s sharp decline and the technical outlook, market participants are advised to approach with caution. Analysts emphasize the importance of watching the critical support and resistance zones highlighted by experts. The evolving economic environment and company performance will continue to influence investor sentiment and share price direction in the months ahead.
