NCC Gains 5% After Winning Rs 1,076 Crore Andhra Pradesh Water Project
NCC Limited experienced a notable surge in its stock price on Tuesday after securing a substantial order valued at Rs 1,076.71 crore, excluding GST. The contract was awarded by the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department of the Andhra Pradesh government, specifically for a multi-village drinking water supply project involving the Yeleru Reservoir in the Anakapalli district.
Following the announcement, NCC shares climbed as much as 5 percent, reaching a peak of Rs 137.30 on the National Stock Exchange. The company's official filing with the stock exchange confirmed receipt of the letter of acceptance for this significant infrastructure initiative.
The project entails delivering potable water to several villages as part of a comprehensive scheme designed to improve water accessibility in the Anakapalli region. The contract outlines a timeline of 24 months for completion, which includes the construction phase. This effort aligns with broader state objectives to enhance rural water supply and sanitation facilities.
NCC clarified that the order was awarded by a domestic government entity and that the contract terms follow standard general conditions. Importantly, the company emphasized that neither its promoters nor any affiliated groups have any financial stakes in the awarding body, indicating that the transaction does not involve any related-party concerns.
This recent award adds to NCC's growing portfolio of government contracts. In the preceding month, the company secured three separate orders totaling Rs 430.19 crore (excluding GST), primarily within its buildings division. Similarly, prior to these, NCC had won three additional contracts valued at Rs 1,052 crore, split between building and water division projects.
These projects reinforce NCC's role as a key player in infrastructure development, particularly in water supply and sanitation sectors. The company’s engagement in both building construction and water-related projects highlights its diversified approach to infrastructure services.
Despite the positive momentum from this new order, NCC's stock has faced challenges over recent periods. The share price declined by 12.24 percent over the last month and has dropped approximately 19.42 percent in the current calendar year. Looking at a longer timeframe, the stock has fallen nearly 37 percent in the past year and about 16 percent over the last three years. However, over five years, the stock has appreciated by roughly 59 percent.
The infrastructure sector in India has been witnessing steady government investment, especially in water supply and sanitation, critical for improving public health and supporting rural development. Projects like the one NCC has won are vital components of state and national initiatives aimed at providing sustainable drinking water solutions.
Investors and market watchers will be closely monitoring how NCC capitalizes on this contract and its impact on the company’s financial performance in the coming quarters. The company’s ability to execute large-scale projects efficiently remains a key factor in maintaining investor confidence.
