Rhetan TMT Shares Gain 5% After ₹300 Crore MoU with Bajaj Tubular
Shares of Rhetan TMT Limited rallied sharply on September 28, closing up 4.94% and hitting the upper circuit level despite a weak overall market environment. This positive momentum came after the company announced a significant business development involving a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bajaj Tubular Products.
On that day, the Indian stock market faced a downturn, with the BSE Sensex falling 1.52% to close at 72,771 points. However, Rhetan TMT, a small-cap player in the iron and steel sector, stood out by defying the bearish trend and gaining nearly 5% in a single session. The stock ended at ₹15.93 per share, marking its intraday high, with a market capitalization of ₹1,269.42 crore.
The MoU signed by Rhetan TMT and Bajaj Tubular involves the proposed supply of approximately 20,000 metric tonnes (MT) of TMT bars over a 24-month period. Bajaj Tubular has expressed its intention to procure this quantity during the agreement's term, although the exact orders will be finalized through individual purchase orders. These will depend on Bajaj Tubular’s specific business projects, mutually agreed supply schedules, product availability, and Rhetan TMT’s production capabilities.
In its filing to the BSE on Friday, Rhetan TMT clarified that the 20,000 MT figure is indicative and not fixed. The companies may also negotiate various details, such as the product mix, order frequency, market prices, and the possibility of expanding business relations beyond the current MoU.
From a commercial standpoint, Rhetan TMT’s management estimates the MoU could translate into a business opportunity valued between ₹250 crore and ₹300 crore over the next two years. This arrangement is seen as a step toward strengthening ties with a recognized name in the steel and infrastructure sectors.
Shalin A. Shah, Managing Director of Rhetan TMT, commented on the agreement: "This MoU is part of our strategy to expand our business network and collaborate with established players in the steel industry. The partnership with Bajaj Tubular Products offers a chance to create a structured and long-term commercial relationship, as well as explore additional opportunities over the 24-month timeframe."
Looking at Rhetan TMT’s recent stock performance, the share price has experienced some volatility. Over the past six months, it has declined by approximately 35.64%, and over one year, it fell about 25.18%. Nevertheless, the stock has appreciated nearly 5.5% in the last year and shown a significant gain of around 65% over the past three years, reflecting underlying growth potential despite market fluctuations.
Rhetan TMT Limited, headquartered in Gujarat, operates in the iron and steel industry with a focus on manufacturing TMT bars, which are vital for construction and infrastructure development. The steel sector remains a key pillar of India's industrial growth, with demand driven by urbanization, government infrastructure projects, and private sector investments.
In this context, strategic supply agreements such as the one with Bajaj Tubular can help companies like Rhetan TMT secure steady revenue streams and enhance market presence. The MoU also signals confidence from a reputed client in Rhetan TMT’s production and quality capabilities.
As the Indian economy continues its recovery path and infrastructure activity picks up, suppliers of construction materials like TMT bars are expected to benefit. Investors will likely watch Rhetan TMT’s execution of this MoU and its impact on future financial performance closely.
Despite current market headwinds, the recent stock price jump underscores investor optimism about the company’s growth prospects and expanding footprint in the competitive steel products sector.
