Meta Platforms Inc. has drawn significant attention from options traders recently, as investors position themselves around the company’s expanding role in consumer artificial intelligence. On Monday, Meta’s options trading volume surged to roughly 4.5 times its 30-day average, with nearly $3.9 billion in premium exchanged, according to data from Cboe LiveVol and SpotGamma.

The surge reflected strong demand for call options, which more than doubled the activity seen in put options. Among the top ten options trades for the day, seven exhibited bullish or neutral outlooks on Meta’s stock price. This enthusiasm coincided with a 12 percent climb in Meta’s shares, which closed within 7 percent of their all-time high reached in August 2025.

Since the company shared details about its new AI personal assistant, named Muse, earlier this month, its stock has gained around 21 percent. Muse, launched on September 8, quickly became popular, topping app store rankings and accumulating 730,000 downloads in just five days, according to data from Sensor Tower reported by CNBC.

Aside from Muse, Meta revealed plans to enhance its infrastructure with Petal, a new subsea cable intended to improve data transmission across the Atlantic. These developments contribute to growing investor interest in Meta as a key player in next-generation technology.

Most of the trading activity concentrated on zero-day-to-expiration options that were currently in the money. Call options with strike prices between 720 and 745 attracted particular attention, alongside contracts expiring in mid-October with strikes at 775 and 800. Brent Kochuba, founder of SpotGamma, noted the substantial inflows in options trading, attributing the activity to the excitement surrounding Muse.

SpotGamma’s data further detail that call buyers initiated more than $1.3 billion in premium, while sellers accounted for approximately $1.1 billion, illustrating a market leaning bullish but still tempered with some protective hedging strategies. One of the largest trades identified was a nearly $20 million net short position involving a one-by-two call spread between the 710 and 765 strikes expiring October 16. This position profits if Meta’s share price remains below $740.

Meta’s recent options surge is part of a broader trend where investors are increasingly focused on technology companies driving AI innovation. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape various sectors, companies like Meta that integrate AI into consumer products and infrastructure are drawing heightened market attention. Options trading often reflects investor sentiment and expectations about such companies’ future performance, providing insights into how market participants view upcoming catalysts and risks.

Meta Platforms remains one of the most prominent entities in social media and technology, with ongoing investments in AI and data infrastructure signaling its commitment to maintaining a competitive edge. The company’s recent announcements and product launches have generated optimism among investors, leading to increased activity in derivatives markets. This trend underscores the growing importance of AI as a factor influencing investor decision-making in the tech sector.
