Rupee dips, reversing intraday gains, as importer dollar demand dominates

The Indian rupee declined on Thursday, reversing early gains against the dollar. Importer dollar demand increased, and month-end pressures also contributed to the fall. A modest recovery in the dollar index further dampened the rupee’s momentum. Banks absorbed two days of inflows after a holiday, increasing swap costs. The rupee had previously seen its biggest single-day rise after oil prices slipped.
